SAUGET, Ill. - Former Xavier University pitcher Adam Jahnsen threw a no-hitter on Thursday for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
Jahnsen, a 6-0 righthander, defeated Kenosha 4-0 for the first no-hitter in Gateway's three-year history. It was also just the 10th no-hitter in Frontier League history.
"It still hasn't registered yet," Jahnsen told the Belleville News-Democrat. "I'm just so tired and sweaty and I'm just glad its over."
When the game began, Jahnsen was happy to get out of the first inning after walking two batters with two out, but got by after striking out Tommy Horiguchi. Jahnsen threw 30 pitches in the first inning and 130 overall.
"I told somebody (in the dugout) he wasn't going to make it past the sixth or seventh (inning)," said Gateway Assistant Coach Neil Fiala. "Then the next three innings he breezed through and we said he's back on track. It was a great night for him."
Jahnsen played for Xavier during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, compiling a 15-8 record with a 3.28 ERA and 130 strikeouts.
