CINCINNATI - Junior Danielle Skrajewski posted her sixth straight double-double but it was to no avail as Xavier fell to visiting Ball State in three games. The Cardinals took the match with scores of 30-26, 30-23 and 30-26. The Musketeers are now 15-9 on the season, while BSU improves to 13-8 on the year.
XU could not find any rhythm on the evening as the Musketeers were held to under a .100 hitting percentage in each of the three games. Xavier hit -.023 in the opening stanza marking only the second time all season that the Musketeers were in the red during a game. Ball State did not fare much better with the Cardinals hitting .060, .227 and .189 in the three games. BSU also out-dug the Musketeers 68-65 and added 12 more kills, 46-34.
The junior, Skrajewski, led Xavier as she posted 12 kills and 11 digs on the match to increase her consecutive double-double streak to six straight matches. She was the only Musketeer to record double-digit kills and joined three other players in double-digit digs. Freshman Jenn Welsh led the defense with 13 digs on the night, while seniors Jordan Brightwell and Carley Horvath added 12 and 11, respectively. Sophomore Jill Quayle had five total blocks on the evening with one solo and four assists, while junior Astyn Bjorklund recorded her 800th career kill and added three block assists. XU could only muster two aces on the match with Bjorklund and Horvath each serving up one apiece.
The Musketeers will travel to Dayton on Thursday night for a key A-10 match-up with the Flyers before hosting Rhode Island for Senior Night on Saturday night. With Dayton holding a one-game advantage in the A-10 West Division, XU will need to take the match to restore a tie atop the West Division standings. The match is set to start at 7:00 pm from the Frericks Center on the campus of UD, while the URI match is set for 7:00 pm at Cintas Center. Senior Night festivites will begin at 6:50 pm that evening.
