Musketeers Cruise Past Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio - In non-conference action at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium on the campus of Wright State University, Xavier defeated the host Raiders of Wright State in three games. The Musketeers took the match with scores of 30-23, 35-33 and 30-26. XU now stands at 19-10 on the season, while Wright State drops to 8-18 overall.
XU controlled the first game notching a .321 hitting percentage and holding the Raiders to just a .178 attack percentage. Jill Quayle and Kate Duchek each had five kills in the game, while Erica Kaczorowski tallied seven digs to lead the XU defense.
Extra points were needed in the second stanza as WSU responded to the opening game loss and held the Musketeers to a .242 hitting percentage. XU bested its first game performance of 21 team kills by adding 23 in the second game. Setter Jenn Welsh assisted on 20 of the 23 kills and added nine digs. Duchek had eight more kills in the game, while Quayle added five.
The third game saw both teams battle with Xavier eventually pulling out the sweep. XU controlled the next with four team blocks and added 17 more team kills. Duchek posted nine more kills, while Welsh picked up seven digs.
Duchek posted her third 20 kill match in the last four matches as the senior finished with 22 on the evening and had a .308 hitting percentage. Danielle Skrajewski notched 12, while Quayle rounded out the Musketeers in double figures with 11. Welsh dished out 52 assists and added 20 digs.
Xavier will have the next week and a half off before traveling to Kingston, R.I., for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. XU secured the #3 seed and will take on #2 Temple in the 7:00 pm match on November 18 at the University of Rhode Island's Keaney Gymnasium.
