Krystel Kooyman Leads Xavier Swimming at IUPUI Quad Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Xavier senior Krystel Kooyman collected three first-place finishes as the Xavier women's swimming team defeated IUPUI and Evansville but lost to Wisconsin-Green Bay in quad meet hosted by IUPUI on Friday. The XU men beat Evansville but fell to UW-Green Bay in the same meet.
The Musketeer women rolled to wins over the host Jaguars, 92-40, and over the Purple Aces, 95-43, but couldn't get past the Phoenix, 106-32. The men picked up a 72-66 win over Evansville, but fell 75-63 to the host and 86-52 to UWGB.
Kooyman hit the touchpad first in all three individual events she was entered. In the 100 back, she paced the field in a time of 1:07.97. The 200 breast saw her win in an XU seaon-best time of 2:26.24. She also clocked a team season-low mark in the 200 IM of 2:13.74.
Martha Cutter-Wilson was third in the 100 back in 1:09.52 and was second to Kooyman in the 200 breast (2:26.89).
On the men's side, three different Musketeers posted first-place finishes. In the 200 fly, Nico Lilly's time of 1:59.79 was good for the gold. Matt Krouse took the 200 free in 48.14, which marks a new Xavier season-low. The 200 IM went to Dave Janszen in an XU season-best 1:59.42.
The Xavier women improve their record to 4-4 in dual meets this season, while the men move to 3-3. Both squads return to action Dec. 1-3 at the Summa Care Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron.
