CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend as the Musketeers recorded a 7-0 win over visiting IPFW on Sunday afternoon at the Mercy HealthPlex at Fairfield. With the win, XU improves to 3-1 while the Mastodons drop to 2-5 on the season.
XU recorded the first point of the match with victories at first and second doubles. At No. 1, senior Kristen Clary and freshman Kara Courtney posted an 8-4 defeat of Ashley Coulson and Jessica Vervynckt. In the second position, the junior duo of Alicia Papa and Jackie Vilines rolled to an 8-1 win over Beth Miller and Sachi Janek.
The Musketeers dominated in singles action with straight-set wins in all six matches. At No. 1, Clary recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Janek. Vilines posted a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Coulson at No. 2 while Courtney defeated Hanna Hager, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3. In the fourth position, Papa recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Miller. Annie Diedalis posted a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Lisa Bartelheim at No. 5 and Jeanette Feider concluded the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vervynckt at No. 6.
Xavier will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 10, when the Musketeers will travel to Richmond, Ky. to take on Eastern Kentucky.
