Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Xavier University women's tennis opened its spring break trip on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to Charlotte at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex on the campus on UNC-Charlotte. XU drops to 4-3 on the season while the 49ers improve to 3-2.
Charlotte opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 advantage. At No. 1, XU's Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney fell 8-4 to Ofra Friedman and Ashleigh Murray. In the second position, Alicia Papa and Jackie Vilines were defeated by Koren Fleming and Ali Piacente, 8-3. At No. 3, Charlotte's Kathy Robey and Yana Stoeva posted an 8-2 win over Annie Diedalis and Kate Lohner.
In singles action, the Musketeers got a pair of wins from seniors Kristen Clary and Emily Tuchscherer to account for XU's two points in the match. At No. 1, Clary posted a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (2) victory over Friedman to improve to 12-5 for the season and 95-26 for her career. Tuchscherer posted the other win for XU at No. 5 as the senior improved to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Stoeva.
Xavier will return to action on Thursday, March 2, when the Musketeers will travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on the College of Charleston.
