Swimming Falls at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio - The Xavier men's and women's swimming teams dropped a dual meet to Ohio University at the OU Aquatics Center in Athens Friday evening. Dave Janszen finished first in three events to lead the men, who were edged 137-119. Krystel Kooyman racked up a gold and two silvers for the women, who fell 153-102.
Janszen struck for gold in the 200 free (1:44.43), 200 back (1:55.55) and the 200 IM (1:56.59). In all, Janszen collected 29 points for the Muketeers' cause in the meet.
Kooyman's gold came in the 200 IM, as she led four Musketeers in the top-four places in that event in a time of 2:13.41. She was second in both the 200 breast (2:25.98) and 100 breast (1:08.64).
Also for the men, Lilly took gold in the 1000 free (9:56.08) and was second in the 200 fly (1:57.52). In a tightly contested race, Mark Febus was second in the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.32, while Matt Marcus was third (1:01.35) and Joe Conklin was fourth (1:01.52).
Nicole Bujold also had a solid meet for the women as she placed second in the 1000 free in a time of 11:00.80 and also took the silver in the 500 free in 5:19.32. Alissa Schriner took gold in the 100 fly in 2:10.73, while Jill Winhusen (2:13.58) was second in that event.
In the women's 200 IM, Xavier swept the top-four spots as Kooyman was followed by Kelsey Burns (2:14.83), Martha Cutter-Wilson (2:15.81) and Amber Thompson (2:17.46).
Xavier returns to the O'Connor Sports Center for the final time this season, hosting Denison University on Saturday, January 27 at 1 p.m. Senior Day ceremonies will be celebrated that day.
