LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Another strong pitching performance by Louisville did not allow the Xavier offense to get going as the visiting Musketeers fell, 10-0, in non-conference action at Jim Patterson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. XU was limited to only three hits in the game and committed two errors to help the Cardinals' offense at times. Xavier slips to 3-16 overall, while Louisville improves to 11-7 on the season.
After a walk by Tyler Aholt to start the inning, senior Matt Waskerwitz recorded the first XU hit of the day in the form of a double in the top of the third. With runners at second and third with no outs, a strikeout and two pop ups ended the Xavier threat.
Robbie Kelley led off the fourth inning with a single but again XU could not get anything started. Sean Farrell also started off the sixth inning with XU's last single but the Musketeers came up empty after a strikeout and double play ended the inning.
Louisville scored in each inning with the exception of the fifth and seventh. The Cardinals ended the day with 15 total hits and drove in eight of their 10 runs.
Waskerwitz ripped his team-leading fifth double in the game and finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Kelley and Farrell each ended the day 1-for-3.
The Musketeers and Cardinals will take the field for the final game in the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm at Jim Patterson Stadium. XU will have junior Charlie Leesman on the mound making his third start of the season.
