Women's Tennis Rolls Over Embry-Riddle, 8-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sweeping all three doubles points and five of the six singles matches, the Xavier women's tennis team began its spring trip Tuesday evening with an 8-1 win over Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Fla. Sophomore Kara Courtney led the attack with a pair of wins as the Musketeers improved to 7-3 for the season.
Courtney's win in the No. 2 position was one of five for Xavier in the singles competition. She defeated Natalie Anaya by scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Jill Ducro downed Lindsay Kurtz 6-1, 7-6, while Kaitlyn Zinn used straight sets to beat Kerrin Meisenbach 6-0, 6-3.
Also in singles, Jeanette Feider dropped the middle set of her No. 5 match to Marga Rico-Jimenez, but recovered to win 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. The No. 6 singles match went to Alicia Papa 6-3, 6-3. In No. 1 singles, Jackie Vilines won her first set, but could not hang on against Hana Im in suffering a 5-7, 6-0, 10-6 setback.
Xavier won all three of its doubles matches to capture all three points. Zinn and Courtney competed for this first time this season in doubles and won their No. 1 match-up by a 9-7 score over Anaya and Kurtz. Ducro and Annie Diedalis beat Im and Meisenbach 8-4, while Feider and Kate Lohner blanked Rico-Jimenez and Sara Abraul 8-0.
The Musketeers return to action Wednesday, with a 9 a.m. contest versus Central Florida in Orlando, Fla.
