CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team opened the home portion of its 2008 spring schedule with a 5-2 win over Butler Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Healthplex - Fairfield. Sophomore Jill Ducro extended her dual match singles winning streak to eight and is now a perfect 8-0 this spring. XU improves to 7-2 overall while Butler falls to 0-6 on the year.
"We got off to a rough start in doubles but we were able to snap out of it and played solid singles," said head coach Eric Toth. "We hope to build on today in order to give our best effort against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday."
Juniors Kara Courtney and Jeanette Feider downed Butler's Gabriella Bobrowski and Natali Jaimes at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. On the third court, senior Annie Diedalis and Ducro teamed up to give Xavier the first point of the match with a 9-7 win over BU's Michelle Hawes and Tiffany McLoughlin.
Along with Ducro's win at No. 5 singles, Courtney and sophomore Kaitlyn Zinn along with freshman Tifanie Treece each picked up victories.
Up next for the Musketeers is a trip just up the road to Hamilton, Ohio to take on Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, Feb. 17. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
