CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team defeated Duquesne, 6-1, Monday afternoon at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club for its seventh consecutive win. The Musketeers improve to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in Atlantic 10 play with the conference win while the Dukes fall to 9-4 on the year and 1-1 in A-10 action.
"I am really proud of the team," said head coach Eric Toth. "It was apparent after the match that the guys realize this was a step in the right direction. The key is for them to stay hungry for our upcoming matches."
Xavier notched the first point of the contest by winning all three of the doubles matches, including a close 8-7(5) win at No. 3 doubles by sophomore Anthony Palmenter and freshman Brian Starr.
The Musketeers then won five of the six singles matches to sew up the 6-1 win over the Dukes.
Up next for XU is a midweek matchup with intrastate rival Wright State on Wednesday, March 12. The match, scheduled for 1 p.m. at Mercy Healthplex in Fairfield, will wrap up the Musketeers' seven-match homestand.
