Xavier Men's Tennis Defeats Temple

CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's tennis team defeated Temple, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Temple Pavilion in Philadelphia, Pa. The Musketeers improve to 12-8 overall and 5-1 in Atlantic 10 play with the conference win while the Owls fall to 4-12 on the year and 2-5 in A-10 action.
Junior Doug Matthews clenched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Temple's Ricardo Velazquez in the No. 1 position while sophomore Chris Herrlinger beat TU's Lawrence Carpio 6-3, 6-2. Junior Ra'ees Ismail claimed a singles win 6-1, 6-0 over Pavlos Stephanides in the No. 3 position. Junior Mike Dieciuc won 6-0, 6-1 over Andrew Choi.
The Musketeers won all three of the doubles matches against the Owls including an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles by Matthews and Herrlinger.
XU will return to action Saturday March 29 against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia, Pa. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
