Kauffmann, Clark lead Cross Country at Flyer 5K

DAYTON - The men's and women's cross country teams both finished in fourth place at the Flyer 5K Saturday, kicking off the season in Kettering, Ohio. The men tabulated 95 points while the women totaled 98, finishing behind Dayton.
Xavier failed to top rival Dayton for the first time in 14 tries as the Flyers finished third at the event.
On the men's side, Kauffman led the Musketeers in eighth place with a time of 15:42, matching Ben Milroy's mark from the previous year. Senior Luke Beuerlein crossed the finished eleven seconds later with a time of 15:53 in 15th. Clint Womack (16:06), newcomer Keith Albrektson (16:10), and Drew Kaiser (16:11) rounded out the top finishers for Xavier in 22nd, 27th, and 30th place, respectively.
Senior Becky Clark led the women in 16th with a time of 19:15. Sophomore Caitlin Thomas was right behind in 17th at 19:23. Newcomer Caylin Howell joined Albrektson in leading Xavier freshman at the 5K, finishing 19th at 19:25. Angela Menke (19:27) and Christina Schneider (19:42) followed suit with 21st and 25th place finishes, respectively.
The Musketeers will stay close to home, crossing the river to co-host the Queen City Invitational on September 6 in Alexandria, Ky. Race time is set for 9:35 a.m.
