CINCINNATI - Although the Miami RedHawks rallied in the ninth, scoring three runs, the Xavier baseball team held on for the 9-7 win Wednesday afternoon at Hayden Field. Two Musketeers had perfect days at the plate as XU put up 14 hits in the contest. Xavier improves to 14-9 on the season while Miami falls to 12-12 overall.

Xavier went up by five, 5-0, after two innings as the Musketeers connected on six hits, including an RBI-double from Schmidt in the first.

With two outs and a man on, Miami used a hit batter and two singles to score two more in the fourth. After coming up empty in the bottom of the fourth, XU answered with two runs of its own in the fifth. Freshman Matt Kleifges led off with a single to left and was moved around to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Phil Bauer. Senior Adam Pasono got Kleifges to third with a base hit and Kleifges scored on a sac bunt from Lindgren. Pasono stole third and then made it across the plate on a throwing error by the catcher. After five, XU led, 9-3.
A single run in the six cut the Musketeer lead to five, 9-4, for the RedHawks and the game looked to be in the bag as the score remained unchanged through eight. But in the top of the ninth, MU rallied to score three runs on four hits and had the bases loaded with two outs. Miami called on John Hornke to pinch and with a full count, Hornke went down swinging to end the game. Xavier came up with the 9-7 victory.
