CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's tennis team dominated every singles and doubles match as the Musketeers rolled to a 7-0 win over Atlantic 10 rival Dayton Tuesday.
"I felt today that Dayton really tested us and competed very well," said XU coach Eric Toth. "We did a good job winning the big points in sets that were close on pretty much every court. I feel we have some better tennis in all of us as we approach the conference tournament. We will need a strong performance tomorrow against Northern Kentucky to earn another win and to keep our confidence high as we head towards the end of the regular season."
Chris Herrlinger held off a determined effort by Dayton's Matt Sherman for a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 win at No. 1 singles. JT Torbeck also won in three sets as he defeated Michael Koscielski 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 match.
Richard Canelas earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, Patrick Bandy was a 6-4, 7-5 victor at No. 3, and Bobby Deye earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4.
Brandon MacDonald won the No. 6 singles match over Bryce Warnock 6-2, 6-1.
Xavier won all three doubles matches by an 8-4 margin.
With the win, the Musketeers improved to 12-7 on the season and 6-1 in the Atlantic 10. Xavier will face Northern Kentucky tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Xavier tennis courts.
