LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Xavier men's tennis team started the 2011 spring tennis season off with a tough test at No. 12 Kentucky Sunday evening. In the end, it was the Wildcats who claimed a 6-0 victory. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 0-1 on the season while UK improved to 2-0.
Senior Bobby Deye fell to No. 39 ranked Alex Musialek 6-1, 6-1 in the first singles match. Wildcat Brad Cox defeated freshman Jimmy Roebker 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 match, and sophomore Brandon MacDonald fell to Anthony Rossi 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
"We started well on all courts but Kentucky proved to be too much for us in the end," said XU assistant coach Doug Matthews. "Hopefully, our experience today will prepare us for another high-quality opponent in Ohio State on Wednesday. If we can focus on our own ability to compete the best we can, I'm confident our guys can improve on our efforts today."
The Xavier men's tennis team returns to action Wednesday, January 26 as they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
