NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Xavier men's tennis team's strong showing in singles play propelled the Musketeers to a 4-3 win over Lipscomb Friday night. With the win, XU improved to 5-6 while the Bisons fell to 3-4 on the season.
"Our guys did a really good job of coming out in singles and establishing themselves early in their matches after dropping a doubles point that we really let slip away," said Xavier head coach Eric Toth. "Good teams respond well in adverse situations and I'm really proud of the way our guys handled the disappointment of the doubles result to get a quality win on the road."
After dropping the doubles point the Musketeers rallied to win four singles matches to seal the win. Freshman Jimmy Roebker earned a win (6-3, 6-1) over David Salazar in the No. 2 slot. Sophomore Brandon MacDonald kept the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.
Freshman Mesa Mei defeated Tanner Brown 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and senior Brian Starr sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Musketeers will remain in Nashville for a Saturday showdown at Belmont.
