Musketeers Cruise to 77-64 Victory Over St. Bonaventure

CINCINNATI- The Xavier men's basketball team rolled to a 77-64 victory over St. Bonaventure Saturday at Cintas Center. Junior Mark Lyons had a team-high 21 points off of 4-for-7 shooting from behind the arc.
The Musketeers extended their win streak to three games and improved to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic 10. St. Bonaventure fell to 9-7 for the season and 2-2 for the conference. Xavier now leads the all-time series 24-15 including wins in each of the last 11 meetings.
Lyons' four treys tied a season-high, and also shot 50 percent from the field (7-of-14). Junior Brad Redford had a season-high 10 points from 2-of-3 shooting from long range and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. This was the first time Redford had double figure points since Jan. 31st, 2010 against Fordham.
Andre Walker played a role in every asset of the game today. Walker contributed eight points six rebounds and had a career-high seven assists. Jeff Robinson added a season-high 13 points from 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Tu Holloway added 12 points and three assts in the Musketeer victory.
XU went on an 11-3 run midway through the second half which extended its lead to 57-35, the largest lead of the game.The lead was cut down to 12 with four minutes to play, but the early lead was too much for the Bonnies to overcome.
XU shot 50 percent form the field (27-of-54) and from long range (8-of-16). XU outrebounded SBU 32-31 and dished out 20 assists to SBU 12.
The Musketeers went into half with a 34-21 lead over the Bonnies. Lyons led the way with 11 points from 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from behind this arc.
St. Bonaventure didn't allow a Xavier field goal for over three and half minutes and closed the score to 20-17 midway through the first half. Redford ended the drought by dropping one of his signature deep treys in the right corner to give XU the momentum after the four minute media timeout.
That started a 14-3 run for the Musketeers which included another three for Redford and an breakaway layup by Dezmine Wells.
XU held SBU to 28 percent shooting in (7-of-25) in the first half and only 12.5 percent from behind the arc (1-of-8). Xavier shot 50 percent from the field (12-of-24) and from behind the arc (4-of-8).
Andrew Nicholson of St. Bonaventure had a team-high 20 points and team-high seven rebounds.
