DETROIT -- The Xavier Men's tennis team picked up its first win of 2012 and improved to 1-3 with a 6-1 win over Detroit Saturday night.
"I was really happy with our guys tonight and was glad that they earned their first win of the season," said Xavier Head Coach Eric Toth. "We were engaged in the match from start to finish and never really let Detroit in the match after doubles. We still have a lot we need to improve on and we need to get back to work next week in order to be ready for Ball State next Saturday."
Sophomore Jimmy Roebker earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Fellow Sophomore Mesa Mei earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory at number two singles and senior Richard Canelas and Junior Brandon MacDonald earned wins at no-3 and no. 4 respectively. Freshman Freddy Abunku rounded out the singles wins with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the sixth position.
The Musketeers host Ball State Saturday February 4, at 1 p.m. at the Mercy Healthplex of Hamilton.
