Women's Golf Sits Tied For Third Place After Day 1 Of The Yale Intercollegiate

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) and sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) led the Xavier women’s golf team in its first round on Friday by shooting four-over 75 at The Course at Yale, tying the Musketeers for third place after day one of the three-day Yale Fall Intercollegiate.
Playing on the par-71, 6,100-yard Yale Golf Course, Smith and Crutchfield carded 75s to sit tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard. As a team, XU is +19 with Charleston Southern, just six shots behind second place Boston University and 13 shots back of tournament host Yale.
Senior Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) carded an opening round 76 to sit in a tie for 14th place, while classmate Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) shot a six-over par (77) in the opening round and sits tied for 23rd place.
Freshman Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) rounded out the Blue and White’s scorecard, turning in an 11-over 82 (t-61st).
Freshman Rachel Johnson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and senior Kristin Tan (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy), competing as individuals, registered scores of 77 (t-23rd) and 82 (t-61st), respectively.
The second round of the Yale Intercollegiate begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
