Women's Tennis Tops EKU On The Road

RICHMOND, Ky. - The young Xavier women's tennis team battled and came out victorious over a veteran Eastern Kentucky team on the road, 4-3, Saturday evening.
Xavier was able to secure the doubles point with Lauren Ghidotti and Daniella Patton defeating Amandine Faouzi and Marcela Jimenez, 6-3. Amina Ismail and Lizzie Oosterbaan followed by beating Raquel Montalvo and Dominika Hadnadova, 6-4.
Freshmen Ghidotti and Ismail defeated their respective opponents to give Xavier its second and third points early in the evening. The Colonels of Eastern Kentucky rallied back to tie the match, 3-3. The evening came down to Patton and Montalvo where Patton walked away with the victory, 7-6 (4), 6-2, for herself and the team.
"This is a really good win for our team," stated head coach Doug Matthews. "EKU has a veteran group of girls and a tough home court advantage. Pulling out a 4-3 road win should give us a lot of confidence moving forward."
Next match for the Musketeers is against Indiana January 31 at Western Tennis and Fitness Club. The match is slotted for a 3 p.m. start.
