Musketeers Put Away EKU

CINCINNATI- Men's tennis sought out its third consecutive win against a competitive EKU squad and came out successful winning 5-2.
The Musketeers picked up where they left off, hot, capturing two wins in doubles to secure an early match point on the evening. Jeremy Schneider and Gabriel Chaves Aruajo, who now stand 2-1 in competition, earned the first win for Xavier by edging off Sebastian Mueller and Diego Asis 6-3. Matt Bishop and Zach Mueck followed up their teammates with an identical score defeating Alex Alvaro and Juanjo de la Llera, 6-3.
In singles competition, the Musketeers struggled to find their rhythm, but soon found just the right tune to dance to. Freshmen Arthur Stefani and Gabriel Chaves Araujo picked up the first two points in competition by defeating each of their opponents in two quick sets. Red hot Jeremy Schneider placed brilliant shots throughout his match to put away Juanjo de la Llera, 6-2, 7-6(3). Zach Mueck solidified victory for Xavier by knocking off Alex Alvaro in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1,
"Everyone's energy was really good throughout the match, even though we lost the first few sets." Zach Mueck stated. "Since the energy was there, it kind of helped everyone comeback in their second sets and push the match along, which helped us get a win."
With the win this evening, men's tennis improves to 3-1 on the 2015 spring season. The men will look to continue impressive play and seek their fourth consecutive win against BIG EAST opponent DePaul, February 1st. Match play will be held at the Eastern Hills Tennis Complex and will begin at 9:00 a.m. #LetsGoX
