Musketeers, Pirates set to play at 6 p.m. tonight

CINCINNATI - Xavier volleyball wraps up its four-game BIG EAST road swing at Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 10. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.

The Musketeers are coming off a four-set loss at Villanova on Friday night - the first win in the series history for the Wildcats. Xavier moved to 8-8 (4-2 BIG EAST) following the loss.

Seton Hall enters the match with a 9-9 (3-3 BIG EAST) record following a 3-0 win over Butler on Friday night. Amanda Hansen led the squad with a match-high 18 kills and .500 hitting percentage as the Pirates snapped a two-game losing streak.

SERIES HISTORY

• The Musketeers are 3-1 all-time against the Pirates. The two teams split the series last year with the road team winning each match.

• Abbey Bessler averaged 4.44 k/s and 3.33 d/s against the Pirates last year, while Kristen Massa added 2.78 k/s. Seton Hall hit .224 in the series and Xavier posted a .209 hitting percentage.

NOTABLES

• After missing her last four matches with an injury, sophomore Kristen Massa posted 11 kills in her return to the court at Villanova. The outside hitter ranks second on the team and ninth in the BIG EAST with 2.85 k/s.

• Abbey Bessler had a team-high 12 kills at Villanova, her 13th match this season with 10 or more kills. The outside hitter ranks third in the BIG EAST in kills (3.84 k/s) and 11th in digs (3.33 d/s).

• Xavier ranks second in the conference in digs (16.69 d/s), while ranking 12th nationally.

• Meredith Klare had a team-high 11 digs at Villanova. The redshirt-freshman ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in digs (4.23 d/s).

Xavier returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. against Georgetown.

XU VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

• The Musketeers posted a 19-12 overall record last year, the team's 17th straight year with a .500 or above record.

• Xavier has posted a 28-12 record in BIG EAST play since joining the conference in 2013. The Musketeers advanced to the conference tournament in both seasons.

• Xavier players have earned AVCA All-American honors eight times in the last 10 years. Aubree Smith earned the honors last season, while Abbey Bessler picked up the recognition in 2013.
