
Women's Soccer Travels to Marquette for First BIG EAST Road Match

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's soccer team (5-5-1; 0-2-0 BIG EAST) travels to Milwaukee for its first conference road game of the season, taking on Marquette (4-6-3; 1-2-0 BIG EAST) on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET. A link for live stats will be available on GoXavier.com.
Xavier is coming off an extended break after last Sunday's scheduled game at Georgetown was postponed to Oct. 14. The Musketeers were last in action on Thursday, Oct. 1 when Xavier fell to Providence, 1-0 at the XU Soccer Complex. The Friars took the early lead off a goal knocked in after a shot ricocheted off the crossbar. The Musketeers created a number of dangerous looks late, but were unable to score the equalizer.
Marquette was last in action on Sunday, Oct. 4 when the Golden Eagles traveled to St. John's where MU fell, 3-0. The Red Storm scored the game winner in the 34th minute. SJU added a pair of insurance goals in the second half to set the margin of victory at three.

Thursday's match is the sixth in series history with the Golden Eagles, with XU trailing in the series 1-4-0 all time. The Series dates back to 1989 when the Musketeers fell, 2-0, at Marquette. Xavier picked up a 2-0 win the following year. The two schools faced off in 2005 where the Eagles took the 2-1 win in double overtime. The series rekindled when Xavier joined the BIG EAST in 2013, with the Musketeers falling 3-0 in their inaugural season in the conference.
Last season, Xavier traveled to Milwaukee where they fell, 1-0, after Darian Powell scored the game-winner in the 36th minute.

The match at Georgetown scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4 was postponed due to inclement weather. The game was rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14 at noon in Washington, D.C. Stay tuned to GoXavier.com for more information.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Piccus has hauled in a total of 67 saves through 11 games, the second most in the BIG EAST. Piccus' average of 6.09 saves per game also rates as the second most in the conference.
On offense the Musketeers rank in the top three in the conference in goals per game (1.91) and total assists (22) and are in a three-way tie to lead the conference in assists per game (2.00).
Freshman Samantha Dewey is among the leaders in the conference in points scored with 15, which matches two other players for fourth most in the BIG EAST. Dewey is averaging 1.36 points per game, which stands as third most in the conference.
Dewey and sophomore Kenadie Carlson's goals scored in 2015 (5) place them both in the top 10 among individuals in the BIG EAST for total goals, and in goals per game (0.45).
Dewey also ranks fourth in the conference in total assists (5) and third in the BIG EAST in assists per game (0.45).

Through 11 games, 13 different Musketeers have scored points after only nine did so for all of 2014. Xavier has more than doubled its offensive output for last season (10 goals), posting 21 goals thus far in 2015. Nine Musketeers have knocked in a goal, while 10 different Musketeers have collected assists.
The Musketeers' scoring effort is led by freshman Samantha Dewey and sophomore Kenadie Carlson who have each tallied five goals through nine games. Dewey also leads the Musketeers with five assists.
