Trio earns weekly awards after starring in 2-0 week, win at No. 1 Creighton
NEW YORK – Dallas Jaye, Matt Vasquenza and Chris Moore were all recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday after starring in a historic 2-0 week for Xavier men's soccer. Jaye was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while Moore earned BIG EAST Defender of the Week honors. Vasquenza also earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
As a team, the Musketeers earned a 2-1 road win at No. 1 Creighton – the highest-ranked win in program history – and defeated Seton Hall, 3-0, on Senior Night during a stellar week.
It was the third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award for Jaye, who made a career-high eight saves in the win at No. 1 Creighton. The San Ramon, Calif. native also shared a shutout with Vince Shaw on Saturday, making one save in the Seton Hall victory. His goals against average is down to a miniscule 0.35 on the season, which ranked third in the nation coming into the weekend and has him on pace to shatter the school record set in 2014 by Eric Osswald (0.74).
Moore picked up his second BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week award, playing the full 90 in both of Xavier's wins and contributing an assist on Calum Latham's game-winner against Seton Hall on Saturday. Moore's assist was the first of his career and made him the 11th XU player to record one this season. He also helped Xavier contain Creighton on Wednesday as a part of a defensive effort that held the Bluejays three shots under their season average.
Vasquenza earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week. The East Hampton, Conn. native delivered in the 89th minute, grabbing control of a deflection in the box and finding the back of the net for his second straight game-winner. Vasquenza also beat Marquette with a 95th minute golden goal in Xavier's preceding match. It was his fifth goal of the season, which ranks second on the team.
Now, 11-4-1 (5-2-1 BIG EAST) with one match to play, Xavier carries a five-match unbeaten streak into their road finale at Butler on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The showdown will feature some interesting seeding implications for the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament.
