Xavier Upends No. 19 Butler, 73-56, on Saturday Afternoon

CINCINNATI - Sophomore Myles Davis scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Xavier men's basketball team to a 73-56 win over No. 19 Butler on Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. The Musketeers move to 4-1 against AP Top 25 teams this season.
The four AP Top 25 wins sets a new school record for regular season wins over ranked opponents. The 2003-04 team also beat four Top 25 squads -- three of which came on the way to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Despite the heavy snowfall overnight in the greater Cincinnati area, Xavier was able to top its all-time attendance record as 10,492 fans poured into Cintas Center to watch the upset. The Musketeers improved to 18-10 (8-7 BIG EAST) in the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 19-8 (9-5 BIG EAST) as the Musketeers handed the Bulldogs their largest defeat of the year.
Xavier led from start to finish and led by as many as 29, 71-42, with 5:47 left in the game. The Bulldogs got within five, 25-20, late in the first period before the Musketeers closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 33-22 advantage into the locker room.
Myles Davis had 12 of his 18 points at the break to pace the Xavier offense, while Remy Abell added seven. Roosevelt Jones and Kelan Martin both had six points at the break to lead the Bulldogs.
The Musketeers hit five of their first six shots in the second half, including three 3-pointers, to take their first 20-point advantage, 48-28, at the 15:01 mark. Xavier hit six of its seven 3-pointers in the second half as the Musketeers finished the game 7-of-16 from behind the arc.
Defensively, the Musketeers posted a season-high nine blocks with six different players recording a block. XU also held Butler to a .351 field-goal percentage, including .241 clip in the first stanza.
Xavier held a 39-35 advantage on the glass, paced by James Farr and Jalen Reynolds who both pulled down 11 rebounds. Farr also added eight points on 4-of-6 shooting in only 11 minutes of action off the bench.
Trevon Bluiett added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting for Xavier, while Reynolds had nine on 4-of-5 shooting. Matt Stainbrook also dished out a game-high five assists.
Xavier finished the contest 27-of-59 from the floor and 12-of-16 from the foul line.
Jones led two Butler players in double figures with 14 points, while Alex Barlow added 10. Kameron Woods added seven and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Musketeers return to action on Monday, Feb. 23 at St. John's. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. on FOX Sports 1.
