Women's Tennis Wins Thriller Over Miami (Ohio), 4-3

OXFORD, Ohio- The women's tennis team pulled out a huge victory over Miami (Ohio), 4-3, to complete an undefeated weekend.

Doubles competition started with Andreea Badileanu and Ramona Costea beating Lauren Ghidotti and Daniella Patton, 6-1. Shortly after, Amina Ismail and Sydney Liggins defeated Christine Guerrazzi and Nelli Ponomareva, 6-4.

With Alex Brinker and Cristina Di Lorenzo still playing against Hannah Shteyn and Alix Thurman, Xavier's hopes of obtaining the doubles point remained alive. With doubles tied at 1-1, Shteyn and Thurman won the match and the doubles point, 6-4.

Being down 1-0 heading into singles play was no bother for Ismail at No. 3. She beat Badileanu in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Miami quickly took the lead of the match again with the win of Hannah Shteyn over Patton.

Liggins was able to tie the match up at 2-2 with a two set win at the No. 1 position. Miami's Thurman beat Di Lorenzo in three sets to take advantage of the match, 3-2.

With a must win situation at hand, Brinker did what she needed to do. After losing the first set, she rallied winning the next two to tie the match at three points a piece.

The remaining Musketeer playing was Ghidotti at the No. 5 position. Miami's Ana Rajkovic won the first set, 6-3. The second set went into a tiebreaker where Ghidotti did not give up winning the set, 7-6(6). In a winner takes all third set, Ghidotti did it in true Musketeer fashion winning her match and the dual, 7-5.

With the win, Xavier improves their record to 4-2 on the season. The team will take a road trip to Chicago next weekend where they will take on their first BIG EAST opponent DePaul and Illinois-Chicago.
