Women's Tennis Goes Undefeated In New York

NEW YORK - The women's tennis team finished off its trip to New York undefeated with a win over Fordham, 6-1, Saturday morning.
"This was a great weekend for us," said head coach Doug Matthews. "Our doubles is really improving. We need to keep working hard to make sure we play our best tennis at the BIG EAST tournament."
Xavier won the doubles pint with all three duos winning their match. Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail defeated Ellie Ball and Sarah Ali, 8-1. Lauren Ghidotti and Alex Brinker downed Carolina Sa and Bella Genkina, 8-1. Cristina Di Lorenzo and Daniella Patton beat Estelle Wong and Julie Leong, 8-5.
In singles competition, no match went more than three sets. Patton started off singles play by defeating Destiny Grunin, 6-0, 6-4. Fordham received its first and only point of the match from Wong. Wong beat Ismail, 6-1, 6-4. Liggins downed Ball, 6-1, 6-2.
Rounding out singles play was Di Lorenzo, Ghidotti and Brinker. All three women beat their opponents, 6-4, 6-3; 6-4, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-4, respectively.
The team improved its overall record to 15-4. The Musketeers enter their last weekend of regular season play on April 18th and 19th. Xavier will take on BIG EAST opponents Creighton and Butler in Indianapolis, Ind.
