Women's Tennis Rounds Out Regular Season Play With Two Victories

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Xavier women's tennis team rounded out regular season action with two victories against Creighton on Saturday and Butler on Sunday. The Musketeers beat both teams 7-0 for their seventh and eighth sweep of the season.
On Saturday, Xavier defeated Creighton, 7-0. With quick doubles play to secure the point, Alex Brinker and Lauren Ghidotti beat Sam Anderson and Liz Vermillion, 8-1. Daniella Patton and Cristina Di Lorenzo beat Katherine Nelson and Amanda Noonan, 8-3, leaving Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail to an unfinished match.
Liggins, Di Lorenzo, Patton and Ghidotti all won their matches in two sets. Brinker dropped the first set to Nelsen, 7-6, but was able to rally back in the second and third, 6-7, 6-4, to win the match. Ismail won her first set, 6-1, but Darby Rosette came back to win the second, 6-4. Being tied at 1-1, Ismail prevailed, 10-4, to win the match.
On Sunday, Xavier topped Butler, 7-0. In doubles action, no Musketeer duo allowed their opponent to win more than three games to secure the point. Liggins and Ismail beat Konstantia Adami and Bailey Padgett, 8-3. Brinker and Ghidotti downed Grace Hyde and Angelina Qin, 8-2. Finally, Di Lorenzo and Patton topped Rachel Sutton and Michelle McFerran, 8-2.
In singles play, no Musketeer took their match to a third set. Ismail only allowed her opponent to win one game, a team low 6-1, 6-0, Ghidotti won her first set, 7-5, and in the second she did not allow McFerrean to come as close, 6-3.
Liggins beat Padgett, 6-1, 6-2, while Brinker did the same over Adami, 6-0, 6-3. Di Lorenzo topped Sutton, 6-1, 6-2. Rounding out play, Patton overpowered Anderson, 6-1, 6-2.
The Musketeers rounded out their regular season with a 17-4 record and a 6-1 BIG EAST record.
