No. 19 Men’s Soccer Downs Cincinnati State, 5-1, in Exhibition Play

Musketeers score three times in 2:13 stretch to put match away
CINCINNATI – No. 19 Xavier men's soccer scored three goals in 2:13 during the second period, downing Cincinnati State 5-1 in exhibition play on Tuesday at XU Soccer Complex.
For the scrimmage, the two sides mixed things up with a three-period match featuring 30-minute stanzas. After the dust settled, the Musketeers moved to 2-0 in exhibition play with one to go in preseason action.
Xavier returns to the pitch on Friday, travelling to Ft. Wayne, Ind. to play Ohio State at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Majed Osman made it 1-0 in the 14th minute, corralling his own rebound at the 18-yard mark and curling it to the back left post as XU held a one goal advantage at the first break.
In the second period, Xavier unleashed a barrage of goals – including three in a 2:13 span – to put the match away for good. Joash Sutherland struck first in the 54th minute, putting away a heel pass from Ian Vicars from about 10 yards to make it 2-0.
Just over two minutes later, Kyle Martin connected on a header via a Chris Moore free kick. Eric McWoods got on board 13 seconds after that, slipping past the backline to finish a ball from Vicars.
Cincinnati State got one back just before the end of the second period as Hall Banks scored off a penalty kick to make it 4-1.
Samson Sergi tallied the final goal of the night, finishing off a long run on the right side and beating the keeper to the back left corner of the net.
Overall, Xavier outshot Cincinnati State 27-4 and 13-2 in shots on frame. The Musketeers also held a 12-1 advantage in corners.
