No. 18 Ohio State Snatches Match From Women’s Tennis, 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Xavier women's tennis team opened its 2016 spring season against Ohio State (2-0) at the Varsity Tennis Center Saturday, Jan. 16. Sophomore Amina Ismail was the lone Musketeer to earn a point for Xavier (0-1) as the No. 18 Buckeyes beat the Musketeers, 6-1.
Opening the match up with doubles play, Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson lost to Olivia Sneed and Francesca Di Lorenzo, 6-0, at the No. 3 doubles spot. Cristina Di Lorenzo and Alex Brinker fell to Gabriella De Santis and Ferny Angeles Paz, 6-2, while Sydney Liggins and Ismail lost to the sixth ranked doubles team in the nation Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford, 6-4.
Singles play was highlighted by Ismail defeating Gabriella De Santis, 6-0, 6-2, to earn Xavier's sole point in the match.
No Musketeer fell in straight sets. Ohio State's Sneed defeated Abelson, 6-1, 6-0. Liggins fell to the No. 2 ranked player in the country Francesca Di Lorenzo, 6-2, 6-3. Ghidotti was beat by Angeles Paz, 6-1, 6-1, followed by Kowase beating Brinker, 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out singles play, Cristina Di Lorenzo was topped by Sanford, 6-4, 6-2.
The team is back in action on Jan. 22 against Liberty University at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
