ITA Masters and University of Cincinnati tournament for women's tennis
ITA Masters Tournament Central
Cincinnati, OH – Women's tennis has a busy tournament schedule this upcoming weekend. Senior Sydney Liggins has the opportunity to play at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California while the rest of the Musketeers will be competing at the University of Cincinnati at the Cincinnati Invitational with a number of competitive schools.
To get to compete in the ITA Masters tournament, the players have to be named conference player of the year, which Liggins was last year. The set-up of the tournament is a 32 player draw, allowing only one player to win the tournament.
"This is a great opportunity for Sydney," head coach Doug Matthews said about Liggins. "She has earned this and I believe that she can compete with the best in the country and I'm excited that we can give this opportunity to her."
Liggins is scheduled to start the tournament on Thursday Oct. 13 at 11:15 a.m.
The Cincinnati Invitational starts on Friday Oct. 14 and goes through Oct. 15. Lauren Ghidotti, Cristina Di Lorenzo, Vanina Iordanova, Rachael Reichenbach, and Zoe Manion will be competing against UC, Ball State, and Dayton. The tournament is a hidden dual set-up, meaning the teams will play dual matches against each other, but no official team score will be recorded, only individual scores for ranking purposes.
"Coming off of a strong performance last weekend and a good week of practice, I am excited to play some good teams this weekend," Matthews said about the Cincinnati Invitational. "It will be fun to see how the players compete in a higher position in the lineup since Sydney is at another tournament."
