Musketeers Drop BIG EAST Road Match at Marquette

Xavier takes 13 more shots (21-8) than Golden Eagles, fall 4-1 on Saturday night
MILWAUKEE – Xavier men's soccer held a 21-8 advantage in shots on Saturday night, but Marquette matched its season high in goals to pick up a 4-1 BIG EAST win over the Musketeers.
Xavier moved to 7-5-3 (3-2-1) with the loss, while the Golden Eagles improved to 4-5-4 (1-3-2).
• 9 ' | MU | Luka Prpa scored his seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Golden Eagles an early lead.
• 18 ' | MU | Luka Prpa found the back of the net for the second time in the first half, scoring from eight yards out in front of the net off a pass from Daniel Szczepanek.
• 25 ' | XU | Matt Vasquenza scored his fourth goal of the season with a breakaway goal down the right side of the field, scoring just outside the 18-yard box.
• 41 ' | MU | Daniel Szczepanek posted his third goal of the season, finding the back of the net near post.
• 47 ' | MU | Connor Alba scored his fourth goal of the season from a deflected ball off the crossbar. Daniel Szczepanek was credited with his second assist of the night on the play.
• Xavier held a 21-8 advantage in shots on Saturday night, the third time the Musketeers have posted 20 or more shots in a match this season. The Musketeer also held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
• Matt Vasquenza took a match-high six shots (four on goal). The junior forward now has four goals on the year to rank second on the team behind Jalen Brown (five goals).
• Majed Osman was credited with an assist on Vasquenza's goal, his team leading sixth assist of the year.
• Xavier returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 26 versus Creighton. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. from the XU Soccer Complex.
• Xavier men's soccer has reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the last six seasons.
• The Musketeers finished 2015 at 12-6-1 overall, marking a sixth straight season with at least 10 wins – one of just 12 programs that can claim the feat.
• Last fall also marked Xavier's third straight finish in the top-four of the BIG EAST.
• XU was ranked in the nation's top-10 by the NSCAA for the third time in four years, while knocking of the national No. 1 (Creighton) and No. 2 (Notre Dame) on the road last season. The Musketeers are widely believed to be the first program to ever knock off both a No. 1 and a No. 2 on the road in the same season.
