Musketeers again among the top 50 schools in NCAA DI for overall GSR
CINCINNATI – Xavier student-athletes again pull in high-marks in the classroom, posting an overall Graduation Success Rate of 93 in the latest data release by the NCAA on Tuesday.
"Our student-athletes are remarkable representatives of Xavier University, not only on the playing field, but in the classroom and in the community as well," said Xavier University Athletic Director Greg Christopher. "In addition to their athletic success, a 93 percent Graduation Success Rate and over 3,300 hours of community service performed over the past year shows the strong commitment our students have to developing into well-rounded people."
The overall mark keeps Xavier among the top 50 schools in NCAA Division I for yet another year, ranking in a tie for 38th overall. The mark also rates fourth among the overall scores of BIG EAST Conference members. In total, six BIG EAST members rated in the top 50 in the nation.
Seven Musketeer teams posted perfect 100 GSR, including men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, volleyball and women's indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
Of Xavier's 18 teams, 17 posted marks of 83 or above, including a GSR of 91 for men's basketball. The mark for the men's basketball squad remains steady from last year's ratings, and ranks fourth among all BIG EAST men's basketball programs.
The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate formula in 2003, as part of its academic reform initiatives to better measure student-athlete academic success. The NCAA's GSR metric allows student-athletes six years to earn their degrees. This year's rate is based on the average of student-athletes who enrolled in 2006, 2007, 2008 and the most recent data of 2009 and also graduated within six years following their enrollment.
