Musketeers shutout for first time this season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Xavier baseball dropped game one of a three game series against Vanderbilt, last season's College World Series runners-up. The Musketeers face the Commodores for game two of three on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
• Xavier recorded three hits on the day, with Andre Jernigan (1-of-3) picking up the first hit for the Musketeers to lead off the eighth. A pair of walks for Nate Soria (0-2) and Matt Fallon (0-1) loaded the bases, creating the Musketeers' best scoring opportunity of the game.
• Blaine Griffiths (1-of-4) and Roger Danison (1-of-1) also collected hits for the Musketeers, both in the ninth inning.
• Xavier earned three walks on the day, with two by Fallon.
• Zac Lowther threw six complete innings, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with only one walk.
• Taylor Williams tossed two innings of relief, giving up a pair of earned runs on two hits.
• Xavier failed to plate a run, marking the first time the Musketeers were shut-out in the 2016 season.
• The Musketeers and the Commodores return to action tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
