Daniel Rizzie was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Xavier baseball dropped game two of its weekend series at No. 2 Vanderbilt on Saturday evening. The Commodores topped the Musketeers, 14-3, at Hawkins Field. Vanderbilt moved to 14-1 on the year, while Xavier dropped to 3-10.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Commodores plated two runs on two hits. A solo home run by Joe Gellenbeck in the top of the next frame got the Musketeers within one, but Vanderbilt would add runs in every inning for the remainder of the contest to seal the win.
• Xavier recorded seven hits on the day, with Daniel Rizzie (2-for-4, RBI) posting the lone multi-hit performance. Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-4, HR), Andre Jernigan (1-for-2, R), Chris Givin (1-for-4), Rylan Bannon (1-for-2) and David Morton (1-for-2, RBI) each added a hit in the loss.
• Rizzie now has four multi-hit games to lead the squad with Blaine Griffiths.
• Joe Gellenbeck collected his team-leading fourth home run of the season with a solo shot to right field in the fourth inning.
• Xavier earned five walks on the day, with two by Jernigan and Matt Fallon.
• Both teams left eight runners on base.
• Greg Jacknewitz (0-3) pitched 4.1 innings, surrendering five hits and seven runs in his fourth start of the season. The junior left-handed pitcher also recorded seven walks and four strikeouts.
• Trey Schramm, Brandon Johnson and Sam Czabala all pitched in relief as the three players combined to walk four with one strikeout.
