Xavier Falls to Wisconsin on Buzzer Beater in NCAA Second Round

Musketeers finish the season 28-6
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A shot at buzzer ended the season for the No. 2 seed Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night, as seventh-seeded Wisconsin came away with the 66-63 win. Xavier finishes the season 28-6 overall.
Remy Abell and Jalen Reynolds led the Musketeers with 13 points each. Edmond Sumner added 11 for the Musketeers. Nine Xavier players finished in the scoring column in a back-and-forth game where the Musketeers came up just short.
Xavier missed its first four shots from the floor, allowing Wisconsin to jump out to a 6-0 lead to open the game. A Myles Davis three cut the Wisconsin advantage in half with just under four minutes gone from the game.
Davis' three started a 6-0 run for the Musketeers to tie up the game, but the Badgers heated up from outside, hitting on a pair of threes to jump out to a 17-8 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
After UW took a nine point lead, Xavier responded with a 7-0 run of its own, cutting the lead to two, 17-15, with eight minutes remaining before halftime.
Wisconsin would push its advantage back out to six, before an 8-0 run, fueled by five points for Abell, put the Musketeers on top for the first time, 27-25, with three minutes to play before the half.
Xavier would use a 12-2 run to extend the lead out to as many as four, 29-25, before heading into the locker room leading by three, 33-30.
Abell's eight points led the Musketeers in the first half, with Sumner adding seven. After missing on the first four shots from the floor, Xavier hit on eight of the next 15, finishing shooting 40 percent from the floor to 36.4 percent.
After the Badgers opened the game shooting 3-of-8 from outside, the Musketeer defense clamped down on the perimeter to hold UW to just 1-of-8 for the remainder of the half.
Wisconsin owned a 21-19 advantage on the boards in the first 20 minutes. Bluiett grabbed four rebounds to lead the Musketeers before the break.
Reynolds opened the second half with six points in the first three minutes, helping Xavier hold on to the lead until the 14 minute mark when Wisconsin inched ahead, 41-39.
The Musketeers and Badgers traded baskets, staying within a possession of each other until Xavier put together a 9-0 run, with four points coming from Reynolds, to take a nine point lead, 58-49, with 6:19 to play.
Xavier held on to a two-possession lead until the final two minutes of the game. Wisconsin climbed to within one, 61-60, with 1:34 to play. A Sumner layup put the Musketeers up three with 30 seconds to play.
With 14 seconds remaining, Wisconsin hit a three to tie the game, 63-63. The Musketeers had the ball with one possession to go, when an offensive foul on Sumner turned the ball back over to the Badgers.
