Baseball Drops Game One of Friday Doubleheader at UC

Musketeers held scoreless for just second time this season in 4-0 loss
CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball fell victim to a shutout, dropping game one of a Friday doubleheader, 4-0, to UC at Marge Schott Stadium.
The loss dropped the Musketeers to 7-14 overall. Cincinnati improved to 10-11 with its ninth straight win.
UC got a sterling effort from starter Andrew Zellner (7 IP, 0 ER, 11 K), who teamed up with Jarod Yoakam to hold XU scoreless – just the second time this season the Musketeers have failed to score.

• Xavier got multi-hit efforts from Will LaRue (2-for-3, BB) and Joe Gellenbeck (3-for-4).
• Blaine Griffiths (1-for-3) and Matt Fallon (1-for-3) also added hits for the Musketeers.
• Gellenbeck had his fourth multi-hit performance in his last five games. He's now batting .526 (10-for-19) during that stretch.
• LaRue has been swinging a hot bat lately and – with his 2-for-3 line this afternoon – is now 15-for-31 (.484) in his last eight games.

• Lefty Zac Lowther (2-3) went six innings, allowing just three earned runs and striking out five. The sophomore extended a personal scoreless streak to 12.1 innings before UC broke through for a run in the third.
• Lowther has been exceptional in his last five starts, totaling 32 innings with a 2.81 ERA and striking out 29.
• He has lasted at least six innings in five of his six starts this season.
• Taylor Williams closed out the game with two perfect innings, mowing down UC in order twice and striking out three.

• Xavier returns to action immediately, kicking off game two of a Friday doubleheader at approximately 4 p.m. at Marge Schott Stadium.
