Jernigan Homers Again in Home Loss to Wright State

Senior shortstop now has three homers, 17 total bases in last two games
CINCINNATI – Andre Jernigan homered for the third time in two games, driving in a pair of runs as Xavier fell to Wright State 8-3 on Tuesday at Hayden Field.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak at home for Xavier (8-16), while Wright State improved to 16-8 overall.
• Six Musketeers recorded hits, including multi-hit games by Andre Jernigan (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI), Dan Rizzie (2-for-3, R, RBI) and Nate Soria (2-for-4).
• Andre Jernigan left the yard in the second inning, his third longball in five AB's, before adding an RBI double in the ninth.
• Jernigan now leads XU with seven homers on the season. His seven homers are more than last year's leader had all year (Derek Hasenbeck, 6).
• The Musketeers have hit 17 total home runs in their last nine games.
• Rizzie is now hitting .433 (13-for-30) with three homers, eight runs and seven RBI in his last eight games.
• Will LaRue (1-for-4, R), Chris Givin (1-for-4) and Rylan Bannon (1-for-4) each added hits for the Musketeers.
• Trent Astle (1-3) got the start and went 5.1 innings, striking out three and allowing four earned runs – all on solo homers.
• Taylor Williams pitched 2.2 innings in relief, surrendering just one earned run and striking out one.
• Matt Kent made his second appearance of the year in the ninth, giving up one unearned run.
FIRST INNING: Will LaRue reached and advanced to second on an error before moving over to third on a grounder by Chris Givin. Dan Rizzie followed with a single to left field to make it 1-0.
SECOND INNING: Andre Jernigan put one off O'Connor for a solo homer to make it a 2-1 Musketeer lead.
NINTH INNING: Dan Rizzie worked a walk and came around to score on a long double to right center by Andre Jernigan.
• Xavier hits the road on Wednesday, playing a non-conference game at No. 24 Kentucky at 6 p.m. Greg Jacknewitz will toe the rubber for the Musketeers.
