Women’s Golf Heads to South Carolina for BIG EAST Championship

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – The Xavier women's golf team travels to South Carolina today for the BIG EAST Championship. The three-day event will be played at the Callawassie Island Golf Club on the Magnolia and Dogwood courses.
The Musketeers will be competing against Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, Saint John's and two time defending champion Seton Hall with an automatic NCAA Championship berth on the line. Xavier comes into the tournament as the second ranked team according to Golfstat.
Xavier's lineup will be senior Shane Crutchfield in the number one position, followed by sophomore's Hanna Lee and Lindsey Murray, junior Rachel Johnson, and freshman Mikayla Smith. Individually, Crutchfield and Lee are among the top five seeds coming into the event.
Last year, third-place Xavier was only seven strokes behind champion Seton Hall, with a team score of 921 (+57). Sophomore Hanna Lee finished tied for fourth while senior Shane Crutchfield finished tied for ninth. This spring, Lee is first on the squad with a 76.08 stroke average followed by Crutchfield at 76.33.
Friday's tee times will be determined by seed and player rankings, while Saturday and Sunday's pairings are assembled from the previous day's leaderboard. Competition is scheduled to begin each day at 8 a.m. eastern time.
Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com. The BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) will provide coverage of the final rounds on www.bigeast.com.
