Xavier led 1-0 until Red Storm rally in seventh, eighth inning
CINCINNATI, Ohio – St. John's pulled away late in a pitcher's duel, winning game one of a Saturday doubleheader, 4-2, at Hayden Field.
With the loss, XU drops to 14-26 (1-3 BIG EAST). SJU improved to 20-14-1 (5-2 BIG EAST).

· Will LaRue collected a pair of doubles (3-for-4, R) in a three-hit day, scoring the game-tying run in the eighth.
· Dan Rizzie (1-for-4, R), Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-4), Andre Jernigan (1-for-4, RBI), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-4) and Matt Fallon (1-for-2) also added hits for Xavier.
· Rylan Bannon and Andre Jernigan each collected an RBI.

· Zac Lowther (4-4) made it through six scoreless frames before running into trouble in the seventh and eighth innings. The sophomore finished his day with a line of 7.1 innings, four earned runs and five strikeouts.
· The 7.1 innings were a career-high for Lowther, who has lasted at least five innings in all 10 of his starts this season.
· Taylor Williams entered in relief in the eighth, getting the final two outs and leaving a Red Storm runner on second.
· Trey Schramm worked around a hit in the ninth, closing out the game with a scoreless inning of relief. The freshman has now thrown 9.2 straight scoreless innings.
· Both Schramm and Williams remain tied for team-lead with 16 appearances apiece.
FIRST INNING: Dan Rizzie singled to short with one out, advancing to second on a throwing error before coming around to score on an RBI triple to right field by Andre Jernigan.
SEVENTH INNING: Will LaRue doubled to right to lead off the frame, moving to third on a single by Ethan Schmidt. David Morton was summoned to pinch hit with no outs, as SJU went to its closer early. After Morton struck out looking, Rylan Bannon laid down a perfect sacrifice to score LaRue and tie the game 2-2.Â
