Musketeers Improve to 2-1 with Four-Set Win Over Arkansas

Xavier posted a .329 hitting percentage in the victory
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Xavier volleyball moved to 2-1 on the year with a four-set (25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21) win over Arkansas to close out Illini Classic action at Huff Hall.
The Musketeers moved to 2-1 in the all-time series against the Razorbacks. Arkansas moved to 0-3 on the year following the loss.
• The Musketeers hit .329 in the win, posting their highest hitting percentage since defeating Georgetown on Oct. 16, 2015 (.477 hitting percentage).
• Abbey Bessler posted her third double-double in as many matches with a match-high 22 kills - her 19th career match with 20 or more kills - to go along with 11 digs. The senior outside hitter also posted a .442 hitting percentage.
• Kristen Massa also recorded double-figure kills with 12. McKena Estes added a match-high 27 assists, while Mackenzi Humm added 25.
• Meredith Klare recorded a match-high 15 digs, her third straight match posting the match-high in digs.
• Xavier also had one more team block (8-7) than Arkansas, paced by Sofia Peterson and Lauren Frilling who combined for eight block assists.
• Xavier posted a .500 hitting percentage with 17 kills in the opening frame as the Musketeers never trailed in the set.
• Abbey Bessler and Kristen Massa both had four kills in the opening frame to lead the Musketeers.
• Arkansas bounced back to capture set two, 25-22, as the Razorbacks never trailed in the frame.
• Xavier recorded its lowest hitting percentage (.143) on the day, while Arkansas posted its highest attack percentage (.344).
• Xavier used a 15-4 run midway through the set to lead by as many as 12 points, 21-9, before posting a 25-14 win.
• The Musketeers hit .469 in the set with Abbey Bessler recording six kills in the frame.
• The fourth set had six ties and three lead changes, the most in a set during the match.
• Xavier led by as many as seven, 20-13, down the stretch before the Razorbacks battled back to get within three, 23-20. Kills from Laura Grossman and Sofia Peterson sealed the 25-21 win.
