Groth's Last Second Shot Wins it for Women's Soccer at NKU

Kenadie Carlson scored equalizer in 50th minute
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - A pair of second half goals for Xavier women's soccer, including one in the final seconds of regulation, erased a 1-0 NKU lead at halftime to help the Musketeers move to 4-1-1 on the season, continuing the best start for the program since the 2013 season.
After the Norse scored in the 19th minute, NKU carried the 1-0 lead into the second half. The Musketeers came out of the break attacking on offense and in the 50th minute, Kenadie Carlson evened the score with her first goal of the season.
Samantha Dewey worked the ball into the box and crossed to the left side where Carlson sank the ball from five yards out to tie the game 1-1.
Xavier continued to look for the go-ahead goal until the final minute of regulation. With less than 20 seconds remaining before the match went to over time, Skylar Groth played the ball upfield into the box. Groth shot from straight on from the middle of the box to sink the eventual game winner with less than 11 seconds remaining, her first goal of the season.
Carlson and Dewey led the Musketeers with a pair of shots a piece as Xavier finished the day with eight attempts at the goal, including four on frame.
Rachel Piccus started in goal for the Musketeers, playing 45 minutes and finishing the day a save and one goal against after the Norse scored halfway through the first half off a set play coming off a corner kick to hold a lead going into halftime.
In the second period, Toni Bizzarro made her collegiate debut in-goal, and faced an onslaught by pressing Norse, who took 10 second half shots to finish the day with 15 attempts. Bizzarro made a pair of saves, including a sliding save off a set piece to keep NKU scoreless in the second half, giving her the first win of her collegiate career.
Defensive mainstays Courtney Kobashigawa and Carly Alfano each played the full 90 as part of the back line, limiting the number of clean looks the Norse had at the goal.
On the change in the second half: "That's as poor as we probably played all year in the first half, so we had two approaches. One was to get in there and light them up (at halftime) and the other was to go through matter-of-factly... What are we? Who do we want to be? How do we want to play? We can't afford to have that many no-shows in the second half. In the second half we were really good for a lot of it."
On Kenadie Carlson: "She's played a lot of center midfield for us, so we moved her up top, pairing her up with Sam (Dewey) and that dynamic was pretty successful."
On the 4-1-1 start: "For us, it's just the next game. We have Duquesne on Friday, we have one mutual opponent in Pitt. They beat Pitt 2-0, we lost Pitt 2-1, so we know that's going to be a test, then we're on the road for a couple games, but we're looking forward to the weekend."
