
Swimming Hosts Cleveland State for Only Home Meet of the Season

Start time with Vikings moved to 6 PM from originally scheduled 5 PM
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's and women's swimming will compete in the only home meet of the season on Thursday, hosting Cleveland State at the O'Connor Sports Center at 6:00 p.m. The start of the meet was pushed back from its originally scheduled start time of 5:00 p.m.

ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE |
- The Vikings opened the season at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational at Colgate, held Oct. 6-7.
- CSU's men finished the event third of five teams while the women finished fourth of six teams.
- On the men's side Jason van der Touw won a pair of individual events, the 100 free and 200 free, and took the lead leg of the winning 400 free relay.
- On the women's side, Dana Bender collected the top finish of the day, winning the 200 back, as well as two other top-10 finishes.
- CSU's men finished second at the 2017 Horizon League Championships, while the women finished fifth.
- Last season, the Musketeers traveled to CSU where they women fell by a final score of 159-128. The Musketeer men fell by a final score of 184-102.
- The women picked up wins in five events, including Caroline Gaertner's wins in the 100 back and 100 fly, Paxytn Drew taking the top spot in the 200 back, Becca Titterton winning the 200 breast and the 400 free relay of Gaertner, Abigail Garner, Drew and Emily Conners.
- Patrick Hackett took the top spot in the 1,000 free on the men's side, while 2017 graduate Rodrigo Suriano picked up a pair of wins in freestyle sprints.

WEEKLY AWARDS |
- Emily Conners started her sophomore season off with a splash, collecting a win in six events through the first two meets of the season to earn first BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week of the 2017-18 season.
- At the season-opening Butler Double Duals, Conners was a part of three-first place finishes, winning the 50 free with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 23.66, the top time by a woman in the conference so far this season.Conners, a native of Sunfish Lake, Minn., took part in the 400 medley relay at Butler, setting a 100 free split time of 51.93, the fastest 100 free time among women in the BIG EAST so far this season. Conners also took the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay. Both relays collected the wins as the Xavier women won the six-team event for the third straight year.
- At Indiana State with Olivet Nazarene, Conners collected three more event wins, sweeping the freestyle sprints, taking first in the 50 free with a time of 23.82, a new pool record for the Vigo County Aquatic Center, and winning the 100 free with a time of 51.98, another pool record and a BIG EAST qualifying time. Conners also took the freestyle leg of the first-place winning 200 medley relay at ISU.
- This is Conners' second weekly award of her Xavier career, also earning the honor during the week of Oct. 18, 2016.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- The Xavier women picked up the win over Olivet Nazarene and fell to Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 14.
- Xavier opened the meet by taking the top spot in the 200 medley relay, with Paxtyn Drew, Becca Titterton, Caroline Gaertner and Emily Conners touching the wall in 1:46.76.
- Conners picked up a pair of first place finishes in freestyle sprints, finishing the 50 free in 23.82 and the 100 free in 51.98.
- Caroline Gaertner took first in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 55.52.
- Emma Kauffeld took the top spot in the 500 free, finishing in 5:05.29.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- Xavier took the win over Olivet Nazarene at Indiana State on Saturday, Oct. 14. The host Sycamores do not field a women's team.
- Xavier took the top spot in ever event on the men's side.
- The Musketeer men opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay for Alex Sironen, Matthew Dyer, Brandon Abboud and Sam Johanns touching the wall in 1:33.92.
- Dyer also collected three individual first place finishes, in the 100 breast, 200 breast and the 200 IM.
- Enrique Hernandez took the top spot in the 100 free and 200 free.
- Coomler completed the sweep of the freestyle sprints, taking the top spot in the 50 free with a personal best tie of 21.76.
- Alex Wolfred also collected a pair of wins, in the distance free events, winning the 500 free and 1000 free.
- Sironen touched the wall first in the 100 back, finishing in 51.93.
- Landon Clark's time of 1:56.16 in the 200 fly was good for the top spot.
- Chase Baldwin took first in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.82.
- Brandon Abboud finished the 100 fly in 51.76 to take first.

- The Musketeers head back out on the road on Saturday, Oct. 21 when Xavier heads to Bowling Green to face the Falcons, as well as Tiffin University, at 1:00 p.m..
