Women's Soccer Heads to St. John's for the First of Two Road Games to Close Regular Season

CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer (8-5-4; 4-1-2 BIG EAST) starts out a two-game road trip to close out the regular season in Queens, facing the St. John's Red Storm (7-8-1; 3-4 BIG EAST) on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m. The Musketeers, who secured a BIG EAST Championship bid on Thursday evening, are competing for seeding in the conference tournament, with a chance to host on the line.

The game will be live streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP

With the win over Seton Hall and results around the league, Xavier secured its first bid to the BIG EAST Championship, and its first post-season appearance since 2003.
The Musketeers currently stand in third place, and are currently competing for the chance to host games.
The six-team tournament features first round byes for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. The quarterfinal games will occur on Sunday, Oct. 29, with the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting.
The semi-final games will occur on Thursday, Nov. 2 and will be hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded teams.
The BIG EAST Championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5th.

PREVIEWING ST. JOHN'S

The Red Storm enter the game at 7-8-1 overall and 3-4 in BIG EAST play, coming off back-to-back BIG EAST wins to stand in a tie for fifth place in the conference.
SJU picked up a 2-1 win over Villanova on Thursday, Oct. 19 after topping Seton hall on Saturday, Oct. 14 to pull back into the top-six of the conference after starting league play 1-4.
SJU's other league win came against Creighton, a 1-0 double overtime win.
The Red Storm entered league play with a non-conference record of 4-4-1, picking up wins over Marist, Fairfield, UConn and Loyola Maryland, as well as a draw with LaSalle.
Christina Bellero leads the Red Storm with seven goals and 17 points. Her seven goals are tied for third most in the BIG EAST
Seven others have recorded goals for St. John's.
Lucy Whipp has a team-high five assists, tied for second in the BIG EAST.
Jordan Kamp has played the bulk of the minute in-frame, collecting 44 saves with 13 goals against for a record of 6-5-1, including three complete shutouts.
Antonia Tammaro has appeared in four games, collected 21 saves with three goals against for a record of 1-3 with a shutout.
St. John's finished last season 11-4-5 overall and 5-2-2 in BIG EAST play.
The Red Storm earned a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament, advancing to the semifinals where SJU fell to Marquette.
Last season in Cincinnati, the Red Storm scored three times in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the final minute of the game. Samantha Dewey scored in the final minute of the game to set the final score at 3-1 in favor of SJU.
Xavier is 0-4-0 all time against the Red Storm.

Xavier moved to 8-5-4 overall and 4-1-2 in BIG EAST play with the win over Seton Hall.
The result marks a new program-best win total since joining the BIG EAST, and brings to the program-best BIG EAST point total to 14, standing in third in the conference behind Georgetown and Butler.
Xavier's win, combined with other results from around the league, guaranteed that the Musketeers will finish in the top six in the league standings, securing a position in the BIG EAST Championship for the first time in program history. The BIG EAST Championship appearance is the first for the program since 2003.
The 4-1-2 mark in the BIG EAST marks the best start to conference play since 2000, when the Musketeers started Atlantic 10 play at 7-1. The 2000 Musketeers won seven straight after falling to Dayton in the A10 opener before finishing 8-1-1 in conference play.
The Musketeers moved to 7-2-3 at home on the season.
Sydney Schembri added to her team-high goals and points against Seton Hall, with her season total standing at six goals for 12 points. Schembri ranks T-6th in the BIG EAST for goals, T-6th in goals per game (0.38) and 10th in the league in points.
Schembri's three game-winners leads the Musketeers and tie for the third most in the conference.
Tori Doss picked up her fourth tally of the season and the 17th of her career. Her point total for the season comes to 10, standing behind only Schembri.
Schembri and Doss' tallies were each the third in BIG EAST play to lead Xavier, tying for third in the conference for BIG EAST games.
Doss leads the Musketeers with seven points in conference play, ranking t-4th in the BIG EAST for conference games only.
Carrie Lewis leads the team with four assists, ranked T-9th in the BIG EAST for total assists and T-8th in the BIG EAST with 0.24 assists per game.
Toni Bizzarro ranks third in the BIG EAST in save percentage at .840 and tied for fourth in the conference in shutouts (4).
Bizzarro's total saves (89) rank second in the BIG EAST. Her saves per game (5.56) ranks second in the conference.
Xavier ranks T-3rd in the BIG EAST with 19 goals scored, and fifth in the conference in total points (52).
Defensively, Musketeers rank in the top five in the conference in saves (96 - 2nd), goals allowed (18 - T-5th) and goals against average (0.99 - 5th).

LAST TIME OUT

Xavier picked up its program-best fourth BIG EAST win on Thursday, topping Seton Hall, 2-1.
The Musketeers took the lead in the 28th minute off a free kick from Addie Englehart to Abby O'Keefe on the far side of the box. O'Keefe used a header to pass across the box to Sydney Schembri. Schembri shot from just outside the six-yard box to the upper right corner to put the Musketeers up 1-0.
After the Musketeers took the lead into the break, Seton Hall's Lauren Hall scored the equalizer in the 67th minute, shooting from straight on, just outside the penalty box to the left corner.
In the 77th minute, Xavier retook the lead for good. Off a throw in, Abby O'Keefe, on the right side of the box, popped the ball over the defender to Tori Doss. Doss caught the SHU goalkeeper off the line and buried the ball for the game-winner.
Abby O'Keefe picked up the assist on both of the Musketeers' goals, marking her first two points of her Xavier career.
Xavier held a 11-7 advantage on shots. with five looks coming on-frame for each team. Schembri and Doss each tallied a pair of looks on frame.
Toni Bizzarro collected four saves with one goal against. She moves to 8-5-3 on the season.
Addie Englehart, Maddie Tierney and Carly Alfanoplayed the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline.
Skylar Groth and Andie Kennard also played the full time for the Musketeers.
Xavier moved to 3-1-1 all time against Seton Hall.
