Musketeers fall on own goal in 107th minute

QUEENS, N.Y. - Xavier women's soccer forced overtime with St. John's on Sunday afternoon, but an own goal in the 107th minute gave the Red Storm the win to move the Musketeers to 8-6-4 overall. The setback is just the second loss of conference play for the Musketeers with one regular season game remaining.

HOW THEY SCORED

107' | SJU | On a breakaway for St. John's, Carly Alfano, under pressure from a pair of SJU offensive threats, attempted to clear a ball to Toni Bizzarro. The ball went past the Xavier goalkeeper to give SJU the win on an own goal.

NOTABLE

Xavier moved to 8-6-4 overall and 4-2-2 in BIG EAST play. The loss moved the Musketeers to 1-4-1 on the road and 1-3-4 in extra time.
The Musketeers moved to 7-2-3 at home on the season.
Both teams took 12 shots, with Tori Doss and Sydney Schembri leading the Musketeers with three each.
Abby O'Keefe and Emma Westwater each had had a pair of looks on-frame.
Xavier forced nine corner kicks to just three for St. John's.
Toni Bizzarro collected seven saves on the day with one goal against.
Maddie Tierney, Andie Kennard, Carly Alfano, Carrie Lewis and O'Keefe played the full 107 minutes for the Musketeers.

Xavier closes out the regular season at Georgetown on Thursday, Oct 26 at 2:00 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Xavier secured its first bid to the BIG EAST Championship, and its first post-season appearance since 2003.
The Musketeers currently stand in fourth place, with an opportunity to host BIG EAST Championship games still on the table.
The six-team tournament features first round byes for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. The quarterfinal games will occur on Sunday, Oct. 29, with the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting.
The semi-final games will occur on Thursday, Nov. 2 and will be hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded teams.
The BIG EAST Championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5th.
