
Swimming Travels to Morgantown to Face West Virginia, Seton Hall on Friday and Saturday

Two-day meet begins Friday at 6 PM, resumes Saturday at 11 AM
CINCINNATI – Xavier swimming heads to Morgantown, W. Va. this weekend for a match-up with the host Mountaineers and BIG EAST foe Seton Hall. The two-day meet will begin Friday, Oct. 27 and continue on Saturday, Oct. 28.

2016 BIG 12 / BIG EAST MEET |
- Xavier's women opened the day with a win in the 200 free relay, with Emily Conners, Abby Garner, Caroline Gaertner and Paxtyn Drew touching the wall in 1:37.43.
- Freshman Emily Conners added a pair of individual wins, taking the top spot in the 50 free and 100 free.
- On the men's side, the Xavier men took the top spot in the 200 medley relay with Sam Johanns, Matthew Dyer, Knox Hitt and Rodrigo Suriano.
- Matthew Dyer placed second in the 100 and 200 breast and Alex Wolfred took second in the the 1,650 free during the event last season.
- Xavier's women went 2-1, falling to the host Mountaineers but picking up wins over BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Butler. The men went 0-2.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA |
- The Mountaineers opened the season at the West Virginia State games, held on Oct. 6-7.
- The WVU men won all 20 events to claiming its seventh consecutive West Virginia State Games title. The Mountaineers earned a total of 1,899 points, well ahead of second-place West Virginia Wesleyan.
- The WVU women's team, which won 15 of 20 events, picked up its sixth overall win in the event and first since 2015. The Mountaineers earned 1,515.5 points, 253 better than second-place Marshall.
- Nate Carr and Trayton Saladin each earned five wins, three individual events and two relays, for the Mountaineer men.
- The Mountaineer women were led by senior Amelie Currat and sophomore Morgan Bullock, who each won four total events on the day.
- In all, 12 different Mountaineers were a part of multiple wins.
- WVU's men finished second and the women finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships last February.

ABOUT SETON HALL |
- The Pirates opened the 2017-18 schedule on Oct. 6, with both the men and women falling to UMBC, then returned to action on Oct. 7, picking up the sweep of Rider.
- Last weekend, the Pirates hosted Monmouth and Montclair for a tri-meet, picking up wins over both on the men's and the women's side.
- The SHU men posted the top time in 14 events in the pool, including a pair of wins for Vadim Jacobson in the distance freestyle events.
- The Pirates won 12 swimming events on the women's side, including a pair of top times posted by Amelia Wootton, in the 100 free and the 200 IM.
- The Seton Hall men won the 2017 BIG EAST Championship while the women finished third.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- Xavier took the win over Tiffin, 216-28, and fell, 166-128, to Bowling Green. The Musketeers took first in seven events.
- Caroline Gaertner won a pair of events, the 100 back and the 100 fly. Gaertner's time of 56.66 is the fastest by a BIG EAST competitor this season. Her time of 56.52 in the 100 fly is faster than every other time set by a BIG EAST competitor, aside from her own.
- Emily Conners swept the freestyle sprints yet again, touching the wall in the 50 free in 24.19, and in the 100 free in 52.28.
- Emma Kauffeld took the top spot in the 500 free, with a time of 5:07.83.
- Taylor Hogan won the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.39, the fastest time in the BIG EAST so far this season, aside from her school record time set during the Butler Double Dual.
- Xavier's women capped off the day with a win in the 200 free relay for Conners, Caroline Gaertner, Paxtyn Drew and Tianna Vozar, setting the top time in the conference so far this season.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- Xavier took the 176-82 win over Tiffin after winning 11 of 14 swimming events.
- Christian Thomas, Matthew Dyer, David Bunnell and Noah Coomler took the top spot in the 200 medley relay to open the meet for the Musketeers.
- Cameron Weese swept the breast stroke events with times of 1:03.02 in the 100 and 2:17.28 in the 200.
- Alex Wolfred collected a pair of first place finishes, in the 200 fly and the 200 IM.
- Bradley Jackson finished the 1000 free in 10:13.69 to take first.
- Xavier swept the freestyle sprints, with Alex Sironen winning the 50 free in 21.72 and Enrique Hernandez winning the 100 free in 47.45.
- Dyer took the top spot in the in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.21.
- Bunnell won the 100 fly with a time of 51.72.
- Xavier closed the meet with a first place finish in the 200 free relay with Sironen, Thomas, Hernandez and Sam Johanns setting the top time in the BIG EAST so far this season.

UP NEXT |
- On Saturday, Nov. 4, Xavier heads to Granville, Ohio to face Denison in the final dual meet of the fall portion of the season. Events at Denison are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
- Xavier's last full-squad meet will be the Cleveland State Magnus Cup, running from Nov. 17-19. Morning sessions are set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and evening sessions will start at 5:00 p.m.
