Newsome Sets School Record for Blocks, Musketeers Fall in Five Sets to St. John's

The middle blocker established a new single-match record with 12 blocks
CINCINNATI – Alexis Newsome posted a school record 12 blocks on Saturday night as the Musketeers dropped a five-set match (28-26, 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 14-16) with St. John's.
Xavier moved to 7-13 (2-5 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 10-12 (2-5 BIG EAST).
• Alexis Newsome posted a Xavier single-match school record of 12 blocks. The previous record of 11 total blocks was set by Alex Blair on Sept. 19, 2014 against Lipscomb. The middle block also added 12 kills on the night for her second career double-double.
• The Musketeers posted 23 total team blocks, tied for the most in the NCAA this season.
• Senior Lauren Frilling posted 10 kills and a career-high 10 blocks, while adding six digs. The middle blocker has posted 10 or more kills in three matches this season.
• Freshman Maya Krause recorded a season-high 15 blocks, her fourth match of the season with double-figure kills. The outside hitter added four blocks and three assists.
• Freshman Nadia Dieudonne posted a team-high 32 assists to go along with 14 digs, her fifth double-double of the season.
• Senior Samantha Foti posted a match-high 27 digs, one dig shy of tying her personal-best record. She added six kills and two blocks.
• Junior libero Meredith Klare added 26 digs to go along with five assists. Freshman Moriah Hopkins matched her season high in kills with seven, while adding a season-high 10 blocks.
• The match featured 43 ties and 15 lead changes. Xavier moved to 9-1 in the all-time series with St. John's.
• Xavier wraps up its three-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 10 against Dayton. First serve is set for 6 p.m. from Cintas Center.
