Swimming Travels to Denison for Final Dual of Fall Semester

Musketeers will close the fall schedule at CSU Magnus Cup
CINCINNATI – Xavier will close out dual meet action for the fall on Saturday, November 4 when the Musketeers head to Granville, Ohio to face the Big Red of Denison.

ABOUT DENISON |
- Denison opened the season at the Kenyon Swimming Relays, with both team's picking up second place finishes.
- The Big Red Faced off with Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 21, with the men falling 187.5-111.5 and the women falling 184.5-115.5.
- Matt Hedman led the Big Red on the men's side with a pair of wins in the distance freestyle events against EMU.
- On the women's side, KT Kustritz won a pair of events, posting NCAA B-Cut times in the 100 breast and 200 breast.
- Both Hedman and Kustriz were named North Coast Atlantic Conference Swimmers of the Week by the conference offices as well as the DIII National Swimmers of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com for their efforts against Eastern Michigan.
- Denison will face Ohio State in Columbus on Friday evening before facing the Musketeers.
- At last year's meet, Xavier finished first in nine events, but the women fell, 150-107, while the men fell, 150.5-111.5.
- Denison's men finished third at the 2017 D-III National Championships. The Big Red women finished fourth.

WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- At West Virginia with Emma Kauffeld picked up a first place finish in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 10:30.40 on the opening night against. The freshman followed that with a with a second place finish in the 500 free on Saturday.
- Emily Conners opened Saturday's event with a win in the 50 free with a time of 52.24 after closing out Friday night with a time of 24.03 in the 50 free to take second.
- Caroline Gaertner finished second in the 100 back with a time of 57.13 on Friday night. Gaertner also took fourth in the 100 fly, following in three Mountaineers for th top finish among BIG EAST competitors at the meet.
- Taylor Hogan took third in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:04.07 on Friday.
- Xavier's women closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, with Conners, Abby Garner, Paxtyn Drew and Caroline Gaertner posting the top time in the BIG EAST so far this season.
- The Musketeer women topped Seton Hall 140.00-134.00 and fell to WVU 198.00-79.00.

MEN'S LAST TIME OUT |
- Xavier's men opened the meet at West Virginia with Seton Hall with a time of 3:26.40 in the 400 medley relay to take fourth.
- Nick Mahoney placed third in the 1000 free on Friday night, following in a pair of Mountaineers with a time of 9:50.69.
- Christian Thomas closed out Friday for the men with a time of 21.51 in the 50 free, the fastest time posted by a Musketeer in the event this season.
- On Saturday Matthew Dyer finished third in the 200 breast, following in a pair of Mountaineers to post the fastest time by a BIG EAST competitor at the meet.
- Dyer also posted the top time among BIG EAST competitors at the meet, finishing in 4:11.13, the second fastest time in the conference this season.
- Xavier closed out the meet with a win in the 200 free relay for Alex Sironen, Christian Thomas, Enrique Hernandez and Sam Johanns posting the fastest time this season in the BIG EAST.
- Xavier fell to West Virginia 224.00-53.00 and to Seton Hall University 162.50-111.50.

UP NEXT |
- The last full-squad meet of the fall semester will be the CSU Magnus Cup, held at Cleveland State from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19. The three-day feature a morning session, beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day, and an evening session, beginning at 5:00 p.m. each night.
- Musketeers who have posted qualifying times will have the opportunity to compete in the AT&T Winter Nationals, heldp from Nov. 29 through December 2 at Ohio State University.
