Naji Marshall Leads Xavier to 78-38 Exhibition Win Over Thomas More

The freshman forward had 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists
CINCINNATI – Freshman Naji Marshall scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Xavier men's basketball team to a 78-38 exhibition win over Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon.
• Xavier hit five of its first seven shots to open the game and take a double-figure lead, 12-2, over the Saints. The Musketeers led by as many as 27 twice in the first half and took a 44-17 advantage into the break.
• J.P. Macura led all scorers at intermission with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting. Xavier held a 28-13 advantage on the glass, paced by Naji Marshall and Kerem Kanter who both grabbed six rebounds.
• The Musketeers led by as many as 40 points in the second stanza behind a .500 field-goal percentage. Naji Marshall scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half on 5-for-5 shooting.
• Naji Marshall led three Xavier players in double figures with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting. He was also 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
• Kaiser Gates added 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, while J.P. Macura chipped in 10 points. Quentin Goodin and Kerem Kanter both finished with nine points.
• Xavier held 51-30 advantage on the glass, paced by Kerem Kanter who grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall both added nine rebounds.
• Paul Scruggs dished out a game-high six assists, while Quentin Goodin added four.
• The Musketeers also scored 15 more points off of turnovers (17-2) than Thomas More and held a 38-10 advantage in points in the paint. Xavier also had six more steals (8-2) than the Saints.
• Xavier hit 47.5 percent of its shot attempts, while limiting Thomas More to a .259 field-goal percentage. The Musketeers were also 12-for-18 from the foul line.
• Xavier opens the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 against Morehead State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
